On the campaign trail, President Trump promised to secure America’s elections once and for all.[2] Today he is keeping that promise β restoring elections that are free, fair, and honest, even as Democrat politicians keep standing in the way of election security.
π³οΈ American elections belong to American citizens only. If we don’t have secure elections, we won’t have a country.
The principle is simple, and the vast majority of Americans agree with it. President Trump has championed the commonsense safeguards that other nations already take for granted:
- Voter ID β a photo ID at the ballot box, so every voter is who they say they are.
- Paper ballots β a verifiable paper record with real chain-of-custody protections.
- Proof of citizenship β confirmation that anyone registering to vote is actually a citizen.
- Accurate voter rolls β up-to-date lists, with non-citizens and the deceased removed.
- Honest mail-in voting β absentee ballots reserved for those who genuinely cannot vote in person.
As the White House has documented, the United States actually falls behind much of the world in enforcing these basic protections.[1] Voters deserve elections they can trust β and that trust is being restored.
For years, the United States fell behind. The Biden Administration blocked states from removing aliens from their voter rolls, while foreign nationals and outside organizations exploited federal loopholes to pour millions into influencing our elections. The result was predictable: ineligible voters on the rolls and real cases of non-citizens casting ballots β diluting the votes, and the voice, of lawful American citizens.[10] The Civil Rights Act, the National Voter Registration Act, and the Help America Vote Act all give the Department of Justice full authority to keep state rolls accurate. For too long, that authority went unused.
π¦ Last Night: The President Took His Case to the Nation
In a primetime address to the nation on July 16, President Trump made election security the centerpiece of his message to the country. “No country could be great without fair and honest elections,” he told Americans. “No trust, no greatness.” He then announced the immediate declassification of intelligence he said reveals “shocking vulnerabilities in our election infrastructure.”[3][5]
According to the President, the newly released documents expose an election system riddled with weaknesses:
- Foreign adversaries β led by the People’s Republic of China β worked to compromise as many as 220 million U.S. voter files.[4]
- A limited federal analysis found more than a quarter of a million foreigners illegally registered to vote β before Democrat-run states would even share their data.[4]
- “Hundreds of thousands of non-citizens and dead people are listed and active on the voter rolls.”[4]
- Electronic voting machines and ballot-counting systems remain exposed to hacking and manipulation.[5]
“And yet,” the President said, “we still have elections with no voter ID, no proof of citizenship, and tens of millions of ballots floating aimlessly through the mail.”[4] He paired the disclosure with immediate action β ordering the Department of Homeland Security to notify every state of the non-citizens on its rolls and to direct their removal β and pointed to the SAVE America Act as the indispensable fix. His ask of voters was direct: “Call your representatives in the House and Senate, and demand that they pass the Save America Act without delay.”[4]
Secure elections should not be a partisan issue. It should be a cause to unite us, not to divide us. We should be united, not divided.
Β β President Trump, Address to the Nation, July 16, 2026
Promises Made, Promises Kept
The primetime push builds on a record of decisive action already taken to put the American people back in charge of American elections. President Trump banned foreign nationals from election interference, strengthened citizenship verification, ordered the prosecution of non-citizen voting, and required voter-verifiable paper ballot records.[7] He also directed the Department of Homeland Security and the Social Security Administration to give every state a list of confirmed citizens eligible to vote, and modernized mail-in and absentee procedures with secure, trackable Official Election Mail carrying unique Intelligent Mail barcodes.[6]
This is not theory β it is enforcement. The Department of Justice has secured roughly two dozen arrests, prosecutions, or convictions of non-citizens for illegal voting in just the last few months, with about 90 more cases under investigation across states from Hawaii to New Jersey.[10][11] In July, the DOJ put all 50 states on notice that officials who knowingly allow non-citizens to vote can face criminal penalties.[11] President Trump also cracked down on illegal “straw donor” and foreign contributions funneled through online fundraising platforms,[8] and is holding attorneys and law firms accountable for conduct that threatens election integrity.[9]
π³οΈ The SAVE America Act
The centerpiece of the President’s call to Congress is the SAVE America Act β commonsense legislation requiring photo ID and proof of citizenship to protect federal elections from fraud and abuse.[1] “All voters must show photo voter ID. How simple is that?” Trump asked in his address.Β [4] The bill would also direct states to remove non-citizens from their rolls and limit mail-in ballots to voters with a genuine need β illness, disability, military deployment, or travel. If you want to register to vote in the United States, you should have to be a citizen of the United States. Period.
π¦ The American People Are Already On Board
Democrat politicians love to claim these reforms are controversial. The polling shatters that tired narrative:[12]
- 68% support the SAVE America Act β including 66% of independents and nearly half of rank-and-file Democrats (Harvard/Harris, March 2026).[13]
- 87% agree that only U.S. citizens should vote in our elections β including 84% of independents and 82% of Democrats.[13]
- 81% favor requiring voter ID, 74% support proof of citizenship, and 78% want states to purge non-citizens from the rolls.[13]
- Pew (83%), Gallup (84%), and Rasmussen (75%) all confirm overwhelming, bipartisan support for voter ID β backed by wide majorities of Democrats, independents, Whites, Blacks, and Latinos alike.[14][15][16]
- Strong majorities across five battleground states back the SAVE America Act, and 59% want it signed into law before the 2026 midterms this November.[17][13]
Requiring ID to vote is something NOΒ American should oppose. Voters trust it. Both parties’ voters trust it.[18] The only people standing in the way are the politicians. As President Trump put it to the nation, secure elections “should not be a partisan issue” β they should unite us.[4] He is on the side of the American people, and he is delivering the secure, honest elections they were promised.
