🇺🇸 How the RNC Is Fighting to Secure the 2026 Vote

For two decades, Americans were told to simply trust the machinery of their elections, to accept lengthening deadlines, swelling voter rolls, and ever-shifting rules as the price of modern democracy. Heading into the 2026 midterms, that quiet acceptance has cracked. Confidence in the vote is falling, and for once, the collapse is bipartisan.

A March 2026 NPR/PBS News/Marist poll found just 66% of Americans are confident their state or local government will run a fair and accurate election, down from 76% in October 2024.[2] A University of California San Diego survey recorded an even steeper slide, confidence that votes nationwide will be counted accurately fell from 77% after the 2024 election to just 60% today and the loss of faith cuts across Democrats, Republicans, and independents alike.[1]

This is not merely a polling problem; it is a legitimacy problem.

In three decades advising on everything from local elections to federal policy here in Miami, I’ve learned that an election settles nothing unless every side believes it was fair. The conviction behind President Trump’s Peace Through Strength[9] doctrine does not stop at the water’s edge. As Secretary Rubio reminded the West in Munich[8], a nation that forgets its borders forgets itself, and citizenship is the border of the electorate. The same resolve we demand abroad, we must demand for the integrity of the vote here at home.

Drawing the Line at Home

Under Chairman Joe Gruters, who took the helm of the Republican National Committee in August 2025,[3] the party has treated election integrity not as a post-election grievance but as a permanent, year-round campaign. According to the RNC, its legal team is engaged in more than 150 election integrity cases across over 30 states,[7] focused on the safeguards most Americans simply expect:

  • Enforcing voter ID at the ballot box.
  • Preventing non-citizen voting.
  • Securing the mail-in ballot process.
  • Demanding accurate, regularly maintained voter rolls.

Earlier this year, the committee sent records requests to election officials in 48 states and Washington, D.C., forcing one question into the open: can each state actually prove its rolls are clean?[4]

The Fight Reaches the Highest Court

The most consequential battle is already before the U.S. Supreme Court. In Watson v. Republican National Committee, the RNC’s challenge to state laws that count mail ballots arriving after Election Day, the justices heard oral argument in March 2026, with a decision expected before the November midterms.[5] A ruling for the RNC’s position would establish one clear, national deadline, ballots in by Election Day, for every federal race in the country.

And the wins are not theoretical:

  • New York: In March 2025, the state’s highest court struck down New York City’s bid to let an estimated 800,000 non-citizens vote in local municipal elections, a challenge the RNC helped bring.[6]
  • The States: The RNC also reports victories defending election integrity laws in Florida, Texas, Georgia, and North Carolina.[7]
“The RNC secured decisive wins across the country protecting election integrity… We’re building on the momentum of the last cycle heading into 2026, so Americans can have confidence in our elections going into the midterms.”

— Joe Gruters, Chairman, Republican National Committee

An Army, Not an Afterthought

Doctrine without force is only rhetoric. According to the RNC, Protect the Vote initiative has already proven the model:[7]

  • 230,000+ volunteers mobilized in 2024.
  • 6,000 attorneys enlisted to defend the vote.
  • Personnel stationed at polling sites and ballot centers nationwide.
  • 175 lawsuits filed in defense of election integrity.

Heading into 2026, the committee says it is expanding that force — more poll workers, more observers, more boots on the ground, monitoring the process in real time.

The lesson is one I’ve returned to again and again[10]: weakness invites the very abuse it pretends to prevent. Ninety miles from our shores, weakness once invited sixty years of tyranny; here at home, a nation that will not defend its own ballot cannot be shocked when faith in that ballot collapses. The 2026 midterms will test whether America still has the will to secure the most basic act of self-government.

🇺🇸 Before You Vote — Take the Front Line

This fight is not won in courtrooms alone. It is won by citizens who refuse to be passive.

  • Verify your voter registration today — don’t assume, confirm.
  • Know your options: mail, early voting, or Election Day.
  • Review both sides of every ballot page before you cast it.
  • Volunteer as a poll worker or observer — be the eyes on the process.
